Sensity Studio opens exhibition “Becoming Through Pain” at Somers Gallery

Sensity Studio is opening the exhibition Becoming Through Pain in London. The project brings together women artists from different countries and is curated by British-Turkish curator, writer, and creative consultant Huma Kabakci.

Through this exhibition, Sensity Studio invites artists to reflect on pain — a phenomenon that is fundamental to human experience and yet profoundly silenced within contemporary society.

From an early age, women are taught to endure pain; it becomes woven into our lives, permeating everyday experience. Yet pain is far more than a physiological burden we carry. It is also a cultural and political condition shaped by processes of pathologisation, silencing, stigmatisation, and neglect.

Becoming Through Pain proposes to consider pain not merely as a passive state, but as a site of resistance and transformation. As Judith Butler writes:

“To be injured is to have the chance to reflect on the injury itself: to understand the mechanisms of vulnerability, to see who else suffers from permeable boundaries, sudden violence, deprivation, and fear.”

The artists presented in Becoming Through Pain engage with the entanglement of physical, emotional, and political pain, uncovering within it a force capable of reshaping how we understand vulnerability, agency, and change.
